It’s here, officially. Which I’m sure is bringing a smile to the face of many just as wide as Little Joe Lastie’s here in this picture. Shot in Preservation Hall, with the Nikon D4, 24-70mm lens, ISO 200, and several speed lights. We’ve been involved with the prep for this camera for several months, and been shooting with it for the last few weeks. And, man are we happy to be able to finally talk about it. ... (more)

Friday, January 06, 2012 7:49:35 PM GMT Friday, January 06, 2012 1:08:44 PM GMT
Nikon has unveiled the new D4 DSLR, a full-frame 16.2-megapixel camera with a brand new FX-format CMOS sensor, capable of 10fps continuous shooting and up to ISO 204,800. Finally replacing the Nikon D3S, the D4 captures 1080/30p Full HD video and has a speed-boosted 51-point AF System; in fact, speed is the order of the day all round, with Nikon boasting the D4 is ready to shoot in around 0.012 seconds. That carries over to image processing using the EXPEED 3 engine, too, topping out at 11fps with AF/AE... (more)

Nikon D4 overview: Digital Photography Review

published 135 days, 7 hours, 7 minutes ago posted by adminadmin 135 days, 13 hours, 46 minutes ago
Friday, January 06, 2012 7:49:35 PM GMT Friday, January 06, 2012 1:10:42 PM GMT
Like its predecessor, the Nikon D4 looks as if it’s going to be an incredibly impressive camera. Nikon has looked to its professional user-base and tried to work out what it needed to add or adjust on a camera that just a couple of years ago represented the best they were capable of. The result is a camera with few big changes but a extensive series of small improvements. (more)

Nikon D4 announcement in 3-4 hours | Nikon Rumors

I believe Nikon will announce the Nikon D4, AF-S 85mm f/1.8G lens and probably the Nikon WT-5 wireless transmitter tonight, around midnight EST. I think the January 10th date on the leaked Wells Fargo article was a mistake. Here is another Nikon event in Kuala Lumpur: Nikon Product launch at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Jalan Imbi, Kuala Lumpur at 12:30pm. Image taken form the iamcomings.com website a while back. « Nikon Capture NX 2.3.0 (64-bit) and View NX 2.2.5 released todayNikon D800 shows us its dark left side »[NR] admin | Published: Image: Anders Relling As of today I don't have any details on the Nikon D400 DSLR camera (or whatever the D300s replacement will be called). The only information I received is that the Nikon D400 will be released in 2012 after the D800/D4 announcements (I was told in March). It's just too early to consider this information as reliable. Maybe Nikon will really try to get it ... (more)

Transform Smoke Photographs with a Dash of Color

published 135 days, 7 hours, 7 minutes ago posted by adminadmin 149 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes ago

Here’s a fun idea for a weekend project: take pictures of smoke, think about what they look like, and then add color during post-processing to transform them. Photographer Geoff Jansen noticed that one of his smoke photos looked like a rose, so he added some red and green and ended up with the photo seen above. It’s the second creative rose shot we’ve featured today. Image credit: Smoke-11 by geoffjansenphoto and used with permission (more)

What would you pack if you were assigned to cover a war from the inside? The photo above shows what photographer Umit Bektas decided to pack in his camera bag for his embed with a US military unit in Afghanistan. I was going to need two cameras but to be on the safe side, I took a third. As I was planning to do a multimedia piece as well, I packed an audio-recorder and GoPro Camera too. Also a Bgan to give me the internet access necessary to transmit my photos and the Thuraya to ensure communication at ... (more)

Smartphones are taking huge bites out of the compact camera market. A recent study by market research company NPD found that the percent of photographs taken with a smartphone has increased from 17% to 27% over the past year, while the share of photos taken with a dedicated camera has dropped from 52% to 44%. Senior imaging analyst Liz Cutting says, There is no doubt that the smartphone is becoming ‘good enough’ much of the time; but thanks to mobile phones, more pictures are being taken than ever befor... In the interests of advancing information here’s a production snap from the lagoon, taken by our buds Rob and Jen Lace. There’s another version of the shot below. While I was over in Europe, went out at the edge of darkness to do some shooting, and I learned something. (This is just me catching up, really. I’m sure lots of folks already use this technique.) When confronted with dicey shutter speeds without a tripod handy, my traditional approach is to hold steady, obviously, and also find something to brace on. (My tripod was where it usually is, back at the hot... (more)

Our second award is for the Printer of the Year 2011. In the fast-changing world of photography, printers are one of the slowest-moving sectors of the market, with relatively few major releases each year. Epson updated their A3+ range for 2011 with the new R3000, building on their past successes and hitting the sweet-spot of pro-level features at a still affordable price. ”...the R3000 is definitely the one to choose th... Our third award is for the Lens of the Year 2011. This goes to the lens that we feel is a must-buy for the particular system that it’s part of, be that DSLR or compact system camera, Canon or Nikon, and so on. Olympus have been a big part of the growing popularity of the compact system camera market, and it’s not surprising when they’re releasing fantastic products like the M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 lens, a fast and unbel... 2011 Frugal Gift Guide for Photographers1 Comment Let’s face it – the economy being what it is, the really high end items are likely out of the reach of most mortals.  While it’s true that in some cases “you gotta pay to play” (i.e. sports photography), there are economical ways to handle most any photo challenge.  Some are tried and true, some are innovative and new, while others are just plain cool!  The rules for my gift guide are simple – everything must be under $50!
